Security Dave's Reference page
A Backpack - to store misc. stuff (Remember this can be left in you vehicle) 4 or 6 cell Maglight AA Maglight - Sometimes the big one is too Big. Spare batteries Radio and/or TV - with permission of course. 50 foot extensions cord with power strip - make sure it's heavy duty. Electric Heater - Sometimes it gets cold out. Warm Hat and Earmuffs Electric Fan - Sometimes it gets hot out. Blanket and a pillow or pad to sit on. I have a Therm a rest. A small First Aid kit - Including disposable rubber gloves. A pair of warm gloves Disposable camera - A picture is worth a thousand words. Pocket knife - I like Spyderco's products. Pens and Paper 2 mugs. One for Drinks and one for food that can be cooked in hot water. 12 volt water heater - to make Coffee, Tea, or Soup. - Check out JC Whitney for other 12 volt appliances. Cell phone or a 2-way radio Umbrella - Sadly it does rain and we do get stuck walking in it. Food and Drink - Some sites have nothing. Pepper Spray - Just in case.... OVERKILL: (If the above wasn't enough)
Personal alarm - Get one that has a door jam on it. They are very useful when you need to guard a door that you can not lock. (Good for use when your on rounds or have other duty's to attend too.) Van - I've found that a van is great for Security work. You can park your van wherever you need to be and plug the extension cord into an outlet and the other end gets run through your van window. Now you have a place to plug in your Heater, Radio, Coffee maker..... And you haven't wasted any gas. *Reminder: If you leave your vehicle idling for periods of time don't forget to check the Oil and the Coolant. Stay thoughts: I think that all Security Contracts need to have at least 2 guards on-duty at all times with radios. It is more expensive but 1 guard can not be everywhere. Also 2 guards will keep each other awake and more alert. When getting ready to go to a new site, pretend your going camping for a night! Quotes: *Never let valet's park your car. Especially if "it's a rental." "This is not a Job. This is a lack of options!" "With alcohol all things are possible." "When you have a gun you don't need too be right."
