ECONOMIC INDICATORS

POVERTY AND ECONOMIC RESEARCH

The Economic Indicators project provides continually updated information on poverty, earnings, and the economy in all Ohio counties and communities, with related demographics. In Ohio, Economic Indicators data include annual  income trends for all 612 Ohio school districts. Detailed data are also available on job growth and payroll earnings in all Ohio counties covering years between 1979-1990-2008, including measures of the very large job losses suffered by Cleveland and Ohio during the 2000s recession that has lingered longer in Ohio than it did elsewhere in the United States. In Cleveland the recession has been horribly catastrophic, with Cuyahoga County losing a staggering 10% of all its jobs, a job loss of 79,030 jobs.  The most recent income measures in Ohio show that thedamage from this recession has been severe among both low income communities and affluent communities on a statewide basis. All Economic Indicators information is available free upon inquiry by phone, e-mail, snail mail, and this web site. These analyses include a wide variety of research on the impact of economic trends on the well being of Ohio residents.

The Economic Indicators project closely follows trends in the business cycle within the Cleveland-Akron-Lorain-Elyria region. Current data show that the Ohio labor market never recovered from the 2000s recession, which has been over since 2002 in the United States, but which lingers in Ohio to this day.

The project operates through the generous support of the Cuyahoga County Board of Commissioners.
